I suggest you ...

Optional always on

The highlights and such should be always on, or at least give us an option to do so without the bar always visible.

We will roll out the new version in a few days. We will send you a beta version via email to get feedback. When you right-click on the diigo icon and go to the option tab, please select “Pop up highlight button when there is text selection on any page”,you can make highlights directly by
selecting any text on any page.

hmm. as of 2013 now, this is doable.
however with this feature, the extra time to load 'highlight' and 'sticky' on diigolet bar seems to lag. since you can highlight and the context menu with options auto shows up, these options can maybe now be hidden on the actual diigolet bar?

that or just overall, the option to customise the diiglet, there is quite abit that can be done to prevent the accidental clicksto 'stick note' or 'read later' when you lag on an initial click to the first appearing 'highlight'. and so on =)
